15th August 1947, is the most cherished day in the annals of Indian history. It is the day India was declared independent from the British colonialism and became the largest democracy in the world. This day is celebrated all over the country to ignite the feeling of nationalism in every Indian.
On this memorable day we remember the struggles and sacrifices made by our great freedom fighters and show our gratitude to them by proudly hoisting our national flag and organizing various programs in our schools, colleges and throughout the country. India celebrates its 75th Independence Day this year. . To commemorate this historic event, The Yenepoya School and Yenepoya PU College, organized a programme to celebrate the 75 glorious years of independence of our country.
The programme began with the introduction by the MC, Mrs Lorraine Lobo. The choristers invoked God’s blessings with a prayer song. Our beloved Principal, Mrs Grace Noronha welcomed the gathering with her warm and enthusiastic words. She mentioned that we are fortunate to have been born in Independent India. She outlined the rich history of our country which was once a land of milk and honey. She emphasized on India's unity in diversity and encouraged everyone to strive to do better in every sphere of life.
Then the Physical Education teacher, Mr Chethan Gatty led our Chief Guest, Mr. Santhosh Kumar to hoist the National flag. This was followed by singing of our National Anthem. Mr Jince Joseph, our counsellor administered the pledge to renew the oath of allegiance to the nation.
Mrs Nidhi, Lecturer in Economics, succinctly briefed us on the importance of this day.
The patriotic song 'Purane Din, Purane Pal,Purane kwaab' sung by our Yen team stirred our emotions and filled our hearts with the fervour of nationalism.
Mrs Lorraine Lobo,teacher of English, introduced our honorable Chief guest, Mr. Santhosh Kumar and briefed us about his exceptional service to the nation.
Mr Santhosh Kumar addressed the gathering and said that we must remember and commemorate the sacrifices of our freedom fighters. He shared his experiences in the army and said that the soldiers lived harmoniously like students in a school. He relayed glimpses of his experience about the life in the army.
The programme was graced by Mrs Mishria Javeed, our esteemed Campus Director.
Mrs Prapulla Tulluri, Teacher Coordinator, proposed the vote of thanks and thanked the dignitaries and all the members present.The programme ended with the distribution of sweets.
