World Environment Day 2021

Nature is a miracle we depend upon. We should strive to raise awareness about how humanity is damaging the natural world and show students how ecosystems can be revived. As a small step to educate, empower and encourage young minds, we at The Yenepoya School conducted a virtual program on the occasion of World Environment Day, June 05, 2021, with the theme titled, COVID-19 REJUVENATION OF MOTHER NATURE .

The program was introduced by the MC , Aminah Maznah Mohammed of Class 7 followed by invocation led by Siddarth R Shetty of Class 6.

The program was graced by the esteemed dignitaries, Dr Elias Gerald D'Silva (Chief guest) , Assistant professor ,PG Social Work, St Aloysius College ( Autonomous) Mrs. Mishria Javeed (Campus Director), Mrs. Grace Noronha (Principal), Mrs. Jacintha Dcosta (Vice Principal),Mr Antonio Noronha,Director of Secret Sharz and Mrs. Yvette Pereira (the Campus Coordinator).

The Principal Mrs. Grace Noronha welcomed the audience with an opening speech giving an insight on the significance of the day and to contribute positively towards our environment.

The Yenepoya forest which is the brainchild of the Principal Mrs Grace Noronha was launched on this day . Students are asked to plant saplings in a pot and bring them to school when the physical classes begin.

Mrs. Viola Pinto from Secret Sharz introduced the Chief Guest , Dr Elias Gerald Dsilva to the participants of the event. The Importance of World Environment Day was elaborated by him who mentioned how humans have been recklessly destroying the environment for their own gain and the need to focus on sustainable development ensuring our future generations have a secure home. He explained how children should be torch bearers to rejuvenate nature and gave some simple tips like growing a kitchen garden at home, eating healthy food and exercising which would be beneficial to nature and to us. His enlightening speech showed us how small endeavors could make a big difference.

The program was conducted in collaboration with the Director of Secret Sharz Mr. Antonio Vian Noronha, who expressed his gratitude to the Campus Director and the dignitaries present for collaborating with Secret Sharz and urged the participants to take a step towards protecting and preserving mother nature. The program culminated with the vote of thanks delivered by Vanditha of Class 7. The event was attended by the students and faculty of classes 6, 7 and 8 of The Yenepoya School.

World Environment Day may be done but the work is just beginning. Let’s aim to restore nature and to become the illuminating light of nature-based solutions.
